SCIENCE UNDER THE STARS 2019
Another wonderful National Science Week event done! Looking forward to continuing our journey in science for the rest of the year....
Telescope Sessions with the NSASYour introduction to the wonders of the night sky! Phil Angilley and a group of volunteers from the North Sydney Astronomical Society treated us to amazing views of objects in the night sky. Despite the cloud coming in after a day of clear skies, lucky patrons were still treated to close up views of Saturn, Jupiter (and three Galilean moons - see below), the Jewel Box and much more. The Full Moon also peeked through the cloud at the end of the night.
Jupiter and three of its moons (look closely!) seen through the telescope.
DIGITAL SCIENCEDiscover how much science we can do with our smart devices. Don't have a telescope? No problem ……. learn how to identify stars, constellations and look for planets and satellites using the Skyview App on your phone or tablet device. Use the SpaceCraft 3-D App to turn markers into space craft floating in front of you. Become a virtual chemist using the goReact App - learn how chemical elements combine and react in every aspect of our lives. And more ....!
Program your own Game - Coding Workshop - Dr. Iain Collings, Macquarie University
Dr. Collings ran a workshop on coding using "Processing" a free online programming environment. It goes beyond block based coding programs such as Scratch and teaches students to program using the C programming language in an easy to use development environment.
Iceland - Photographs by the Talented Ms. J.Ms. Jacobs displayed a selection of her wonderful photographs from Iceland - including wonderful geologic features and the amazing Aurora Borealis - the Northern Lights - one of the most spectacular demonstrations of the interconnectedness of the Earth and our Sun.

ROBOTICS DEMONSTRATION AND HANDS-ON ACTIVITY
Students from our Robotics Club demonstrated their creative and fun robot vehicles. Students enjoyed testing their skills in controlling one of the robots using the Robot Challenger App on the iPads!! |
